The PSA paper on the perception of the legitimacy of the European Court of Human Rights amongst British elites and how this affects compliance with human rights judgments can be accessed here

Basak will be presenting at SOAS on March 4th on ‘The role of normative factors and state identities in international regime compliance: The UK, Turkey and Bulgaria before the European Court of Human Rights’

We will present the preliminary findings from the fieldwork in the United Kingdom at the 59th Political Studies Association Annual Conference entitled Challenges for Democracy in a Global Era. It’s taking place between the 7th and 9th of April 2009 at the Manchester Conference Centre. More on that paper to come.

Basak gave a presentation entitled ‘How to Ground the Authority of Human Rights Institutions’ at the University of Gothenburg on Jan 29th, presenting some of our initial findings.

We presented our paper ‘The Authority of International Institutions: The Case for Human Rights Bodies’ at the British International Studies Association Conference in Exeter on December 16th. This paper has also been published as part of the School of Public Policy Working Paper Series No. 29 .

Finally, we attended a Workshop at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne on November 27-28 entitled Should States Ratify Human Rights Conventions? and organised by the University of Oslo. Click here for more on that .
